![]() Early Infant Assessment Early detection of possible motor delays and early referral for therapy are crucial to assuring the best for all babies’ physical development. Early motor delays can be detected as early as the two-month well child visit. Early referral for therapy allows the child to make the most of this unique window for learning, and introduces the child to proper movement patterns before bad habits can develop. The best way to detect early motor delays is to observe the child in a variety of positions, looking for quality and symmetry of movement. To assist in this, Pathways has developed a series of video segments and printed handouts which show two children: one developing typically, and one developing atypically. By studying the comparison of these two children, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals will become better able to recognize early motor delays and take appropriate action once a possible delay is identified. Take a look below to download printed handouts comparing 2 babies for two, four and six months of age. These handouts include pictures of both infants and signs to watch for in both typical and atypical development.
Watch for comparison handouts through 18 months of age. All handouts are based on the orginal Zachary and Michael 6 month comparision chart. |
